To leave the world better than we found it.
As a child you were probably taught that if you borrow anything from a friend that you always return it in the same condition or better than when you received it. If you borrow a chain saw you clean it up, oil it up, sharpen the blade, and top off the fuel tank. DXI challenges everyone to take this a step further and leave every person you have contact with a little better than you found them. Even if it is as simple as picking them up and dusting them off. Let's leave the world better than we found it.
To provide responsible conflict management skills for all aspects of life.
Conflict management is more than just learning how to survive the fight once conflict has begun. True conflict management begins with understanding ourselves and does not end until you have survived not only the physical confrontation but the social and legal battles that follow. To conduct this mission DXI provides training rooted in de-escalation, tactics, and self-awareness along with products to help take your training to the next level.
D - De-escalation – Sun Tzu in his book “The Art of War” said, “To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the pinnacle of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the pinnacle of skill.” Even the man who authored the book on war understands that there is more to conflict than just fighting. He elaborates later by saying, “We must fight under heaven with the intent of preservation.” Whether you are dealing with a business deal, family debate, or talking out a barricaded subject, the goal should always be to preserve life. This correlates directly back to DXI’s vision to leave the world better than we found it.
X – We must stay off the X – In Miyamoto Musashi’s Book of Five Rings he said, “You must make your everyday stance your fighting stance.” Force must always be an available option. The world we live in is chaotic at best and people can be unpredictable. To reframe a popular quote from General (Mad Dog) Mattis, DXI believes that you should always be polite and courteous but always have a plan to defend yourself and others. Never compromise your safety when trying to de-escalate. Preservation includes the preservation of our own lives and those around us. DXI teaches body language and self-defense techniques that are congruent with de-escalation to make you safer sooner.
I – Internal Awareness – Aristotle said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Miyamoto Musashi said, “If you wish to control others you must first learn to control yourself.” Sun Tzu said, “If you know them and you know yourself your victory will not be imperiled. If you know heaven and you know earth your victory can be complete.” All the greatest minds spread across history and every culture agree that we must first understand ourselves before we can truly master any skill. Dan Millman once said, “If you doubt yourself and you face one opponent then you are outnumbered.” If you have not mastered your internal fight, then you will always struggle with the fight of you vs the bad guy or you vs the system. Master your internal battle and you can learn to focus your mind when and where it matters.
From an early age, Sergeant David Vilaysing, known as Sgt V, was instilled with values of loyalty, duty, respect, and selfless service to his community. One valuable lesson his father taught him that he never forgot was to always return anything he borrowed in the same condition or better. These principles of service and respect guided Sgt V throughout his life.
At seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) with the 346 Military Police Battalion. By twenty, he had achieved the rank of sergeant. During his time in the USAR, he earned a degree in criminal justice, which paved the way for his transition into civilian law enforcement at twenty-two.
With over 22 years of combined military and civilian law enforcement experience, Sgt V had committed his life to making the community he raised his family in a better place. He is now retired from law enforcement and the proud owner of DXI Training Solutions LLC. He travels nationwide, training law enforcement and first responders. His vision is to leave the world better than he found it by providing responsible conflict management skills for all aspects of life.
I hope you follow Sgt V on this journey and remember, “Accept the Challenge, Keep Thinking, and Stay Safe.”
